EP Review: "Victory is Mine" by Lucifer's Hammer

Victory is Mine
It's become apparent to me that I have been digging a rut for quite some time around here.

Normally, my reviews go in cycles and never really encircles one thing. My lack of specialization is source of great pride, but that's not been the case for awhile now.

This site has been working, insidiously I might add, to become another doom/stoner metal site.

That's not what we are all about.

So, for at least a little while, the focus will shift away from this glorious music scene and refocus on others.

Doom shan't be abandoned, but it's got to be one of many voices heard around here instead of the main voice heard. So, with all that said, here's the latest doom metal....sorry, habits are hard to break...

Lucifer's Hammer
Well, naturally, the name of this band caught my eye.

As was tweeted last night, Blasphemy is welcome here.

This could be black metal, heavy metal, and yes doom metal.

However, the band has chosen to throw us all a miss and they're actually progressive thrash metal.

Imagine if Metallica had continued learning to play better, but the vocals didn't change. Now, if you're thinking about Kill'Em All's vocals, you're going to have to go back a little further in time. If that's too hard, think of Tom Araya from Show No Mercy.

Normally, these tenor screams can put me off, but  here they are, if anything, underused. Few men in this world can sing like Rob  Halford and Bruce Dickinson...I think it might only be two dudes in the whole world that can pull that off.

Their judicious use gave them a stronger sense of power. The rest of the band is magically on point throughout these songs.

This EP is only four songs, but the average length is over six minutes and they use every single minute they can.
