LP Review: "Time" by StoneBirds

Time
Let's have a very silly conversation for just a moment, if you don't mind.

What's the most important thing you can take away from music?

There are so many different types of music that can take the listener into all sorts of places. In This Modern World, the mash up has been taken to the next level.

This past weekend, we attended the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra's Family Concert and they mashed up athletics and music.

Does a strong tempo and rhythm make a song magnificent to you? What about the spaciousness of of progressive music? Does tightly packed metal and hard rock create the ultimate experience?

Stonebirds
For me, in a word, yes. It's all of that at all times. Which is why if you look at the vinyl pictures posted on the Twitters and Facebooks, you'll see how varied the vinyl library is.

Hailing all the way from France, like the Coneheads, are the StoneBirds. They have about seven or eight genre names and the word post in their description.

To this day, post-(genre) music don't precisely make sense to me, but I have come around to at least listening to it.

It's difficult to believe that this album was recorded by a single band. The variations in the songs are astounding.

Time is unequally 80's black metal, 70's prog, 90's alternative, and 60's psychedelia. The usage of all of these influences has borne a singular album into this modern world. Going back to the mash up, this record might be the mother all all mash ups.

The Mash Up To End All Mash Ups!

Or perhaps it's just the kind of album you've been waiting for. It may be the gateway into a wider world of music for you. Perhaps you detest Jimi and Zeppelin live because the songs veer off into strange places that aren't on the studio albums.

Perhaps, possibly, this is the album you've been needing all this time without even realizing it.
